New Help Feature in IRIS
A new help feature has been made available in IRIS. When you click on “Help” at the top of the IRIS screen, you will see a new option for “IRIS Help” at the top of the menu. When you click on “IRIS Help”, you will see any documents that are available for the particular transaction you are using. Click here for an example of the “IRIS Help”.

Not all IRIS transactions have documentation associated with them yet, but help documents should be available on any new functionality. This listing shows transactions that currently have IRIS Help documents associated with them.

Several of the documents available as IRIS Help are new online lessons that will walk you through an example of a transaction.  These lessons are similar to the SAPTutor tutorials with which you may already be familiar.  For more information on the lessons, see the video Introducing IRIS Simulator Lessons.

We will continue to develop additional online documents for new IRIS functionality and for existing transactions.  If there are specific IRIS transactions for which you would like to have online help, please contact us at irishelpdesk@tennessee.edu

There are some technical considerations and limitations for using the online IRIS help:

bulletThe online IRIS help documents are displayed as “pop-ups”.  In order to use the IRIS help, you must set your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups from rwd.tennessee.edu.
bulletThe online IRIS help documents may be enabled so the help window remains “on top” of the IRIS screen.
bulletTo enable this function, users must use Microsoft Internet Explorer and allow the installation of an ActiveX control.  A prompt to install the ActiveX control will appear at the first use of IRIS Help on a PC.  To allow the install, the user must:
bullethave administrator rights to the PC
bulletset Microsoft Explorer Security Settings for Download signed ActiveX controls to either “Enable” or “Prompt”
bullet set Microsoft Explorer Security Settings for Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting to either “Enable” or “Prompt”
bulletset Microsoft Explorer Security Settings for Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins to either “Enable” or  “Prompt”
bullet Install the “RWD Info Pak Help Launchpad” ActiveX control when prompted to do so within Microsoft Internet Explorer.
bulletThe user may access the IRIS help documents without the ActiveX control, but the IRIS help document will NOT remain “on top” of the IRIS transaction screen.  Furthermore, if the user does not install the ActiveX control, s/he will continue to receive the installation prompt each time IRIS Help files are accessed.
bulletWhen the IRIS help documents are displayed with the ActiveX control installed, the internet browser window size is set to allow both the IRIS screen and the help document to be shown.  If you have a difficult time reading the documents, you may re-size the browser window to allow a larger window for the documents.  If you maximize the help documents and you have the IRIS documents enable to remain “on top”, you will have to close or minimize the IRIS help window before you can access other applications on your desktop.
bulletMany of the IRIS Help documents are in Adobe format.  To view these files, the user must have Acrobat Reader installed on his/her PC.
bulletThe online simulator lessons are generated as Java applets.  A user must have the Java Runtime Environment installed in order to use the online lessons.
bulletBased on the technical considerations listed and browser requirements for other IRIS functionality, it is recommended to use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher for the best performance of the IRIS help.
bulletThe help documentation will also be available if you are accessing IRIS via the “IRIS on the Web” link from the MyUT portal.
bulletIf you encounter difficulties with the installation of the ActiveX control and your departmental technical support person is unable to help you or if you have other questions about the IRIS Help documents, please contact the IRIS Help Desk at irishelpdesk@tennessee.edu.
