We have been notified of an information security threat on one of the University’s commercially purchased systems. The server in question does not contain any FERPA or personal information, but it does process login information for many University systems. We have no evidence that anyone’s password has been compromised, but as a precaution we will require all IRIS SAP GUI users to change their NetID password before 6 p.m. EST today, Jan. 17.

If you are using two-factor authentication, access to the IRIS web and many of the University’s systems are protected. However, not all systems are currently enforcing two-factor authentication, including the SAP GUI. Because you have elevated privileges to IRIS, you will need to change your password. If you are using two-factor authentication and you change your password to a new 12-16 character password, you will maintain the non-expiring password policy. *Remember, IRIS passwords:

  1. Do not allow the first three characters of the password to be identical (e.g. AAA)
  2. Do not allow the first character to be an ! (exclamation point) or ? (question mark).

If you have any questions regarding the validity of this message or need help changing your password, please contact your campus HelpDesk or visit the IRIS Password Reset page at iris.tennessee.edu/help/password-reset/.
